“Hands-On” Workshop in Manila

I had a conversation that was incredibly inspiring.
I met Fely (not her real name), a mother of two kids. She was a masseuse/reflexologist earning P12,000 a month. She said they lived in the slums. I asked her what her husband’s work was.
“He sells banana-cue (fried banana),” she said.
“Where?” I asked.
“On the street. Right in front of a bank,” Fely said.
“How much is a banana-cue?” I was curious.
“Five pesos per stick.”
“And how long has he been doing this?” I asked.
“More than ten years now. It’s really hard work. He works for 12 hours everyday,” Fely said.
“Wow. How much does he earn doing that?” I was expecting she was going to tell me “P10,000 a month”. Her answer floored me.
She said, “He earns P800 to P1000 a day.”
I didn’t hide my shock. “Is that gross?”
“No, that’s minus all the expenses already. That’s pure profit.”
“Is that from Monday to Friday?”
“No Brother Bo, he works seven days a week.”
I began to calculate. Her husband, the banana-cue vendor, was earning an average of P27,000 a month! I began to laugh. “I wonder if he knows that he earns more than some of those bank employees who buy banana-cue from him?”
“Yes, he knows,” Fely smiled, “but he just doesn’t tell them.” She added, “During Christmas, he earns much more because he also sells Christmas wrapping paper. So we too enjoy a 13th month Bonus.”
Friends, I believe many Filipinos are fantastic entrepreneurs. Hard-working. Patient. Creative. We just don’t celebrate it.
I believe you too can be an entrepreneur.
Especially now with the internet at our fingertips.
I too have a “store”. Except that it’s not on the street. But on the world wide web. And it’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—without me actually being present there.
To set up my internet business, I had to be like this banana-cue vendor. I had to work 12 hours a day—but only for the first week or two. After that, I now probably work 4 hours a week on the business. But I earn many, many times more than the banana-cue vendor. I know that doesn’t sound fair, but that’s the power of technology. And especially the internet. It multiplies you.
Hey, you don’t even have to reach my profits to call yourself a success.
I know some people who create a blog or sell stuff via the internet (there are many business models to choose from) on their spare time and they earn P5T to P10T a month—and they’re very happy. It gives them extra money to invest in Stocks and Mutual Funds and create a retirement fund for themselves.
If you want to learn more about how to create passive income via the internet, join my internet marketing mentor, Jomar Hilario, in his two upcoming 2-Day “hands-on” workshops. For 2 days, you’ll be in front of a computer, working on your Cash Machine with the expert guidance of Jomar.
Join Jomar on April 30 and May 1, 2010.

You Keep Their Dreams Alive

Dennis has a dream—and you’re keeping it alive.
He’s a scholar of our Pag-asa ng Pamilya Scholarship Foundation, one of the 7 ministries of KerygmaFamily.
He was a consistent honor student in his elementary school years and was enjoying life, having a happy childhood.
Then a series of tragedies struck.
His mother died of breast cancer.
Soon after that, his father abandoned them.
Then his older sister got married and stopped supporting Dennis.
Temporary relief came when his godmother adopted him and transferred him to another school.
Through God’s grace, he was able to finish high school.
But graduation did not bring him any joy.
Because while everybody else was celebrating after the graduation rites, he was there on a little corner, brooding, as he thought he had reached a dead end in his education. “There was no way I could enter college,” he said to himself.
Why? Because his godmother had also stopped supporting him—because she had no more livelihood. That was when Dennis became a prayerful person, as God became his last resort.
But God wasn’t finished providing for Dennis.
One of his teachers referred him to Pag-asa ng Pamilya.
The Foundation sent him to the University of the Philippines, Manila campus. He is now taking Physical Therapy.
To augment the scholarship allowance, Dennis became a working student.
Since he had been a volunteer tutor before, he was hired in a review and tutorial center. The pay was not much, just enough for him to buy P40 meals in a cafeteria.
“To juggle and balance academic studies, hard work, and daily life is never easy. I go to school very early in the morning until afternoon. And then, I go to work after school. I go back to the dormitory at past 9 in the evening. I begin doing my school assignments and projects by that time,” said Dennis.
Many times he wanted to quit.
But the Feast he attends in Pasig every Sunday keeps him going.
His one big dream? “Lord, You have blessed my life so profoundly. I would like to be a blessing for others too.”
As a KerygmaFamily member sending a monthly Love Offering, you keep Dennis’ dreams alive.
You’re changing lives.

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

Failure Isn’t God’s Rejection But God’s Redirection

Eagles are amazing parents.
I didn’t know how special their nest was for their babies.
To make it, Daddy Eagle picks up sturdy twigs and sharp thorns to build this special home. But to make the nest comfortable, he’ll cover the twigs and thorns with soft grass.
And here’s the amazing part: Mommy Eagle will pluck her own feathers from her breast! She’ll place them on the nest for added warmth and softness.
Many times a day, Mommy Eagle will fly out to look for food. She’ll fly back to put fish and other food into the open mouths of her hungry kids.
Because the nests are built on high rocky cliffs, winds are very strong. Whenever there’s a storm, Mommy Eagle covers them with her large wings.
The tiny eaglets live a pampered life.
Because every need is met by their loving parents.
But one day, it’s time to teach them how to fly.
And in an instant, their entire world changes.

My Kids Are Deprived…

As I write this, Bene, our 10-year-old, will be Grade 5.
Let me share to you something shocking: To this day, he has yet to step into a regular classroom. He’s a deprived kid!
Check out this list:
· He’s never ridden a school bus.
· He’s never lined-up for a flag ceremony.
· He’s never eaten lunch in a school canteen.
· He’s never had to raise his hand for recitation.
· He’s never had to do assignments at night.
· He’s never had to go to the principal’s office.
· He’s never played basketball with his classmates.
· Because, technically, he’s never had a classmate!
Poor kid. Some of the experiences above are really good stuff.
But life is a choice. We chose that he experience OTHER things by homeschooling him. And my son loves homeschooling. He won’t exchange it for the world. Here’s why…
· He’s able to spend more time with his Daddy and Mommy each day. His relationship with us is tight—and for this alone—I thank God for homeschooling.
· He loves his younger brother and cares for him a lot.
· Because he can has time to read any book he chooses, he reads five books a week. He loves to read.
· Because he’s not trapped in a classroom, he’s learned so many skills: He’s a gymnast, a musician, a song writer, a painter, a tennis player, cartoonist, short story writer, magazine columnist, TV host, and blogger. Oh, he started preaching now, speaking to large audiences. At ten years old!
· Together with other homeschooled kids in Catholic Filipino Academy, he’s rappelled from a 30-foot hanging bridge and swam in an underground river! With them, he’s also visited zoos, parks, and factories.
· He has lots of friends. He meets them each Sunday at the Feast, our weekly prayer gathering. They play the whole day! During the week, he invites them at home. And believe me, his friends are the coolest bunch of kids you can get on the planet.
· When he was 5 years old, he started a business selling Bangus and earned enough money to buy his own toys.
· He hosts a kids’ TV show each week. He’s having so much fun. (Catch him on MustardTV, every 7am, Saturdays, on TV5.)
· He also writes for a kids’ magazine, Mustard.
· Because he’s not tied down in school, he travels with me a lot in my mission trips. He’s been to ten countries so far. Again, it’s not so much the places we go to, but the fact that we’re together—that’s the incredible gift.
· He’s great with computers and the internet.
· He’s writing his own book now.
· He loves God. He wants to follow Jesus.

Hey, I’m not putting down regular schools.
There are great schools out there!
But what I’m doing, perhaps for the first time, is making parents consider homeschooling as a valid alternative. That it can be a great option for your kids.
Because for the longest time, homeschooling wasn’t even in the radar of most parents’ thinking. It was unthinkable. “Give the education of your kids to the experts,” we were told.
I repeat: There are great schools out there. So do your research.
With your research, why not study this option—Teach your kids at home.
I’m not going to kid you. It’s not easy. The sacrifices are huge.
But I think it’s a wonderful option to consider.
To find out more about homeschooling, email us at cfainquiry@gmail.com, and you'll receive an email from us, with my article on the '10 Principles of Homeschooling'. I hope you enjoy it and learn why I homeschool my kids. You can also call Rita (Mondays to Fridays 9:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) at 5336097 or 09165205838.
May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

Coincidence?

May I give you some trivia.
Do you know the date of the SEC approval of our Tahanan orphanage?
July 11, 2007.
I find that eerie.
Just in case you don’t know, that’s my birthday.
But listen to this…
The orphanage started operating before this SEC approval.
The date Tahanan began accepting orphans? May 8, 2007.
Just to inform you, May 8 is my Mom’s birthday.
All these were unplanned, believe me.
Here’s one more crazy coincidence.
Grace To Be Born is our ministry for pregnant women in crisis. (We’ve saved many babies already from abortion!)
We built the Grace To Be Born Center for 6 months.
When it was time to bless the center, the Board of Directors couldn’t agree on a date. Everyone’s schedule was very busy. But finally, there was one date left when everyone was free: May 8, 2009. So we grabbed it.
And then it hit me—“Hey, that’s Mom’s birthday!”
Too many coincidences!
I’m now convinced God has a sense of humor.
He likes having fun.
My fantasy?
God must be very pleased with our service for the poorest of the poor!

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

All Things Will Work Out For Your Good

When my son was growing up, he loved jigsaw puzzles.
Mind you, I’m not a jigsaw puzzle fan. It’s not just my personality. I wish jigsaw puzzles came with a push button. Press it and viola—it’s done.
I remember this story about men and a jigsaw puzzle.
There were these three guys in a bar.
The bar tender asked, “What brings you here gentlemen?”
“We’re celebrating!” the three men said.
“What happened?” he asked.
One of them said, “We worked on a jigsaw puzzle together and we’re able to finish it in one month. Way ahead of schedule.”
“Way ahead of schedule?” the bartender asked.
“Yes. Because the box says 3 to 6 years!”

The Odd Piece In The Puzzle

One day, while working on a jigsaw puzzle, I remember getting frustrated. Because one piece didn’t fit. This one piece didn’t make sense. This one piece had a different color. This one piece was even ugly.
“Perhaps the manufacturer made a mistake,” I told myself. “Perhaps it doesn’t belong to this box...”
But sure enough, later on, I found its place in the jigsaw puzzle. It belonged to the box, after all. Without that piece, the big picture wouldn’t be complete.
Friend, there are events in your life that are so painful, they don’t make sense. These are like odd pieces in the jigsaw puzzle of your life that don’t seem to fit.
Your miscarriage, by itself, makes no sense.
Having cancer, by itself, makes no sense.
Being retrenched from your job, by itself, makes no sense.
Your daughter getting pregnant out of wedlock, by itself, makes no sense.
Your son getting into drugs, by itself, makes no sense.
Your child dying of dengue, by itself, makes no sense.
In your tears, you asked, “Where is God in my trial?”

You Create A New Future For Poor Children

One of our scholars is going to London.
Awesome!
Two years ago, Rey Ortega (Director of our Pagasa ng Pamilya Scholarship Fund) asked me if I could sponsor five (5) deaf students in College of Saint Benilde.
At that time, Pagasa was running short of funds.
So I used my book royalties to pay for their studies. (By the way, thank you for buying my books!)
One of these five deaf students is a girl named Gemmalyn. As I write this letter to you, Gemmalyn is now on her way to London.
Yabadabadoo!
From someone who had a very bleak future, her life has changed. She will now be working there and earning for her family.
I feel absolutely wonderful being a part of changing her future.
Today, I’m inviting you to experience that joy too.
By giving your monthly Loving Offering to God through KerygmaFamily, you help many scholars like Gemmalyn have a new future.
May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

Be A Sponge And Absorb God’s Blessings!

“Bo, I feel God plays favorites.”
“Why do you say that?” I asked my friend.
“Because He doesn’t bless me as much as He blesses you!”
That’s when I shared to her Matthew 5:45. For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil.
God doesn’t play favorites.
I believe God’s blessings are everywhere.
Like rain, blessings are poured into your life.
Do you need love? It’s out there.
Do you need wisdom? It’s out there.
Do you need healing? It’s out there.
Do you need miracles? It’s out there.
Do you need increase? It’s out there.
But why don’t we receive them?
Let me tell you why…
