Because of You, Streetkids Find A Family

Brenda, one of our He Cares volunteers, was walking along Scout Santiago St. near Kamuning when she saw something that broke her heart.
It was Ella (not her real name), an 11 year old girl, sleeping inside a kariton (a wooden pushcart). Brenda approached the sleeping girl quietly and saw a woman, who turned out to be Ella's mother, sitting beside the kariton.
Striking up a conversation with Ella's mother, Brenda learned that Ella's father had long abandoned them - she and her mother and her 5 siblings. The family somehow managed to survive by selling sampaguita along Quezon Avenue, braving the speeding jeepneys and buses. They also incur the ire of the cops for being "traffic nuisance."
Brenda, over the next few days, convinced the mother to let He Cares take care of Ella and her siblings. The mother agreed, but only in the case of Ella. The other siblings had to help the mother sell sampaguita.
Today, Ella is a healthy child, not only being cared for by the Foundation but also being given education. Joe Dean Sola and his wife Ardis are sending Ella to school, together with about 230+ other streetchildren.
Ella now lives in one of the houses being run by He Cares. Here, she and other former streetchildren are provided with safe shelter, regular food, education, catechism and most of all, family love—the affection they have been denied of when they were living in the streets.
He Cares, one of the ministries we’ve partnered with in KerygmaFamily, feeds 300+ kids in the street every week. And to help mothers rise from poverty, He Cares also launched a micro-lending program in six slum areas.
He Cares was founded by my dear friend Joe Dean Sola. (Together, Jodean and I started Anawim 13 years ago.)
Once again, I thank you for supporting God’s work in KerygmaFamily.
May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez
